my room is a mess. either because of or in spite of this, it's currently @ the status of music shrine. behind God & school, it's no. 3 on my priority list i think. but positions 2 & 3 flip-flop. often.
i look 2 my left & obscuring the view thru the window is a 100-cd spindle, completely empty. on top of that is another 100-spindle, abt 75% full. all blanks. that's the master stack, & i only go 2 that when the smaller spindles need refilling. below the window sill (overlooking the lawn, upon which white boys throw frizbees in zerodegreeweather rockin' shorts/teeshirts) is the heating/airconditioning unit & sitting on top of that is another 100-spindle, with abt 30 discs on it. assorted joints (talib kweli, homemade frees&rarities sits @ the top); it's the go-to stack, 4 storage. anything i'm not immediately using/gonna use goes there. that's behind me. 2 my left (i sit @ my desk, typing this) are the 3 drawers that hang under the desk. the top one is open & 2 50-cd spindles sit inside, both w/ abt 20 discs on 'em. the first is all blanks except its topmost disc, which is biggie's life after death disc1. the 2nd is a stack of abt 20 i'm burning 4 a friend. assorted albums 2 bump in the whip. jay-z's in my lifetime vol2 is on the top of that stack. next to the spindles sits patrice's aiwa discman w/ my headpones (8th or 9th pair i've had since i've been here)stuck in it. underneath this assortment, amidst papers & leaflets (technical term: various drawer junk) are 3 plastic containers of batteries, w/ abt 24 AA's each each. the closest one 2 me is almost empty...the others, untouched. sitting above the discman is my black carry case. i think it seats 24 or 32 discs...not sure. it's always divided into halves, w/ 2 empty spaces somewhere in it to facilitate disc-swapping...the 1st half is nonhiphop, mostly rock & the 2nd half is only hiphop, mostly new underground & old classics. i tote that as much as possible. rotate the contents couple times a month. its the smallest case i have. in the drawer below that is another discman (discman number 3 since i've been here), w/ the open-mechanism broken though, so it's retired 4 now. on the desk sits laptops (2 of them right now, one mine (crashed, with abt 2-3,000 music files locked up on its harddrive) & the other one 'trice's), a monitor & assorted wires running up 2 the focal pt of the room: speakers. 2 beautiful, blue bose joints (media-mates w/ dual inputs) that were a c-note gift from my aunt. indispensable. my resident advisor came thru last week 2 tell me that there's been complaints abt the music (volume) from others on the hall. i promised 2 work it out. *smile*. to the right is the dresser, w/ 'trice's tv/vcr & the gamecube. b/n those 2 is another spindle, 50-cd w/ assorted blank & burned. the bed is trashed right now, but i clear it each night b4 bed...the mess moves from the bed 2 the floor 2 the bed 2 the floor...depending on if it's night/day. there's books, clothes & 2 sleeves on there, both black tower-record purchases. one is a 300-cd jawn that's abt half-full, all hiphop. @ various times of its life, i've arranged the cd's w/in it in oldschool/new, underground/mainstream categories but eventually i just gave up & shelved that project 4 when i have more copious quantities of time/patience. the other sleeve is abt 120-cd capacity & has maybe 2, 3 spots unfilled. it's what i took w/ me 2 ghana, but w/out any spots unfilled. it took me 3 days 2 select 100+ cd's for a 3 week trip, but it took me a night to pack my suitcase. it's obvious where my priorities lie. in the closet, tucked behind my trousers is the last sleeve, another 300-jawn. all non-hiphop. from marvin 2 megadeth, wilco 2 bob & the wailers. tons. 100% filled.
my father has never seen this room. if he ever does...
it'll be ugly...
